The most important meal of the day…

February 04, 2016

Its should actually be deemed a criminal offence to skip breakfast, against the law in fact! I’m currently recruiting for the fourth emergency service…The Breakfast police!

I find it really interesting the different reasons that people give for missing breakfast. One of the strangest that I have come across, is when someones says they are trying to loose weight. When in fact what you’re actually doing is more harm by not having breakfast.

When you wake up, your body has been fasting overnight, in the morning your body is relying on breakfast to boost your metabolism and get your body out of ‘starvation’ mode. You need to get that metabolism up and going in order to increase your fat burning ability, as keeping your metabolism in a lowered state will do nothing for weight loss. The right meal will also fuel your brain and increase concentration levels. If your anything like me, ones brain needs a lot of fuel!

I’m a huge fan of breakfast, as most members of my family will tell you, it has been known that I can get a little cranky without it, (I know hard to believe!) For me I have a few favourite options. One being porridge, love the stuff. Most mornings, topped with either my favourite berries, sometimes with grated apple, cinnamon, scattered with nuts, seeds and drizzled with my favourite local honey… Amazing!

I have found some great porridge inspiration on Deliciously Ella’s website :

Another option, if I’m struggling for time would have to be either a juice or a smoothie. Personally I do find that smoothies tend to keep me fuller for much longer, especially good if your job is quite physical. If pressed (No juice pun intended) for time you can pre prepare your smoothie ingredients, ready to wiz them up and off you go! A smoothie can provide the right amount of nutrients your body needs to keep you going and also preventing you from snacking on foods that are much higher in fat and sugar.

Our ‘We Love Mornings’  boxes have been very popular over the last few months, containing 5-7 easy to follow recipes to take even more of the hassle away when in a hurry-

With so many breakfast options available it is a little beyond me why 25% of us still skip our beloved breakfast more than once a week?! Make time, be a little prepared to keep your tummy happy and your body fuelled with what it needs. If not, be careful, the breakfast police are on to you!!!

Be good.
